Carey McCray has recently returned to the Bay Area after nearly a decade in New York City. As Director of New Works for the CAP21 Theatre Company, she established a nationally recognized program for developing new plays and new musicals. Many of the shows she championed have gone on to critical acclaim and regional productions around the US and Europe including: TheatreWorks (Palo Alto, CA), The Roundabout Theatre Company (NYC), The Wooly Mammoth Theatre (Washington, DC), The Village Theatre (Issaquah, WA), The Goodspeed Opera House (East Haddam, CT), Royal and Derngate (North Hampton, UK), and The Chicago Shakespeare Theater.
She has served as a consultant for The National Alliance for Musical Theatre’s Festival of New Musicals and a selections committee member for The Village Theatre’s Festival of New Musicals in Issaquah, WA.
Carey received her B.F.A. in Drama from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. She is a graduate of the International Theatre Workshop (Amsterdam, Netherlands).
