Melody Hernandez has a background in nonprofit fundraising and education. She is dedicated to leaving the world a better place than she found it. Raised in a musical family, Melody is an avid theatergoer who loves musicals and appreciates the importance of providing young people with access to performing arts.
Melody’s career began in Northern Minnesota teaching at a early childhood program on the Fond du Lac Reservation, incorporating Ojibwe language and culture into the classroom. During her time there she began to take an interest in grant writing and reporting, working with a team to secure large government grants. She then worked in special education at Minisinaakwang Leadership Academy, a K-12 charter school with a focus on technology and Ojibwe language and culture where she again worked with a team to oversee grant writing and reporting.
Melody relocated to, and fell in love with, San Francisco in 2012. She worked for San Francisco Unified School District as an educator before transitioning to full-time work as a grant consultant, helping small to mid-sized organizations work to become more financially secure.
Melody holds a B.A. in American Indian Studies from the University of Minnesota Duluth.
